Don't credit AI
I’ve seen several articles where the author mentions that it was written with the help of AI. I’m hoping that’s a passing phase.
When an analyst presents a financial model, does he mention that it was made with the help of Excel?
Whether the tools in your arsenal are word processors, or grammar and spelling checkers, or human editors, or modern LLMs, you, alone, are the author.
Ethan Mollick’s proposed policy is the most sensible one for the AI age: use AI all you like, but you are responsible for the work turned in. Your name is on the paper. You get the grade.
This applies to AI slop too. AI isn’t responsible for slop. There is a human author behind it. They should put their name on the slop. It should have all the same consequences as putting out purely human-written poor work into the world.
